My NON Cascada calls for 91 (R+M/2) and although it runs fine on 87, I will continue using 93 as long as it costs less the. $3.00 a gallon. My other car, a Turbo 2.0 calls for 87, but again, I'll use 93 as long as it's less then $3.00 a gallon. One reason is that the Top Tier Premium fuels have more cleaners vice the lower 87 fuels.

Why $3.00 limit? Because (I'm old) when I was a kid, gas was between 27 and 29 cents a gallon. With inflation, that equals $2.70 and $2.90 a gallon. (Yes, gas is CHEAP today).

Default Cheap Gas

When I was young a car load of kids would dig into their pockets and come up with a one or two bucks worth of change to fill up. Gas was $.149 a gallon and you got your oil checked and your windshield washed.

When I was in high school (1966) I worked at a brand new Standard Oil station on the interstate just south of Springfield, Illinois. I can still remember our prices---33.9 for regular and 37.9 for premium. People would pull up to the pump, look at the prices, and then drive off because they thought this new station's prices were way too high.

When I first got my drivers license in 1972, gas was 32 cents a gallon.
A NY State inspection was $3. It's now $37.

An apparent electrical system problem has come up again in my Cascada (purchased in February/currently has just under 2,400 miles). This past June I posted about a very strange electrical problem that the dealership had trouble diagnosing until a technician saw a service bulletin regarding a possible cause for electrical failure. I thought it had been fixed but today my car was totally dead again. It's now at the dealership and I will report again when I get it back.
